Holding Lightly

Holding Lightly is about striking a balance between

  1. honoring our brilliant brains’ needs for frameworks, patterns, structures, systems, and familiarity

    and

  2. the fluid paradoxical nature of being, which thrives from meeting life’s experiences with flexible, adaptive responsive availability

Holding Lightly offers spaces that embrace the pluralistic reality of being human in this time space, while also maintaining awareness and practices that defy coloniality by disengaging from bypassing, individualistic, urgency, and other flattening perspectives that infiltrate contemporary ‘wellness’ spaces.

If you want to work together, reach out, introduce yourself, - much less convenient than a single click, yet it allows us to practice living new realities and ways of being, slower, more relational, and maybe some discomfort included. Together can discuss the logistics and a custom design our collaboration for you.

A central theme in this work is that of consciousness. That our body, mind, spirit, heart, all know ‘things’, deep in our unconscious, that our conscious being has not yet registered. I facilitate practices that help excavate what is ‘unknown’ into a space it can be intimately experienced & tended, expressed & integrated.

Additionally the belief that to meet is to be changed deeply informs the work. This is well expressed by Octavia E. Butler who wrote

“All that you touch You Change. All that you Change Changes you. The only lasting truth is Change. God* is change.”

*God could stand for source, spirit, universe, life, whatever works for you - the point is not the creator, the point is the constant, remarkable, miracle of change. Holding Lightly intends to be a ripple of awareness for how we go about changing and impacting another life in each moment of meeting. These moments extend beyond human interaction, I have been deeply changed meeting sunset at ocean, or meeting wind in tree.

Hi, I’m taylor :)

Education, Experience, & Ethics

My life is guided by limitless curiosity and care. I cannot think of a time in my life where I have not been part of a group of beings gathering with a commitment to co-learning.

I hold deep reverence for the devotional act of learning and I do not conflate degrees & certifications with qualification. My qualifications are born from my quality of being - who I am and the values and ethics I choose to be accountable to, the commitments I make to life affirming epistemologies and practices.

Currently I am enrolled in a PhD program that centers decolonial studies alongside ‘Jungian’ depth perspectives by uplifting community, liberation, indigenous, and eco -psychologies. My current explorations are centered on the intersections of pluriversal spiritual practices and how they do (or do not) contribute to a sense of community belonging. Separately from my work at Holding Lightly I work in Community Mental Health as an associate level psychotherapist.

Guiding Values

Life-Affirming Practices - Raising consciousness and critique of cultural norms that threaten the sanctity of life on earth. Recognizing manufactured crisis from distorted values of domination and hyper-independence, re-orienting to Interdependence which is a system of shared thriving based on understanding of dependence on each other.

Love - As bell hooks expressed it, an ability to extend ourselves for each other’s spiritual growth. My heart is absolutely my compass and default mode of being.

Relationality - Valuing the experience of relationships between two or more, rather than the outcomes, things, or objects.

Accountability & Restorative Action - Rupture and repair is a valuable cycle for deepening trust. I want to hearing other’s perspectives on harm I cause and find restorative action.

Pluriversality - There is no one right way or one right truth, holding a pluriversal frame through the work allows for organic emergence and diverse experiences to be valued and celebrated.
